I was awake while you were drowning

me: in bed

you: the adjacent  bathroom

I wanted to move but didn’t

I wanted to yell but couldn’t

I listened to the sweet sound of your gurgling

mixing water with flesh

over and over again

It reminded me of fish in a tank

a baby choking on its mother’s milk

The violent choking

The violent choking

I was awake while you were drowning
